THE BWC FILMING KIT

Your phone.
A clearer story.

For dancers and ballet schools ready to make the teaching easier to hear and the movement easier to see.

Find what you need

Start with the phone you have. Add equipment only where it solves a problem.

What are you filming?

THREE USEFUL UPGRADES

Buy for the shot.
Keep it simple.

These are options to compare from manufacturer information, not a claim that Lucas has personally tested each product. Confirm compatibility, delivery and returns before buying.

The links below currently go to manufacturer information. They are not active affiliate links, and BWC does not earn commission from them.

01

FOR YOUR VOICE

A wireless microphone

Teaching clips, interviews and talking to camera.

Keep the microphone near the person speaking while the phone stays far enough back to show the movement.

Check before buying

Match the receiver to your phone: USB-C and Lightning are different. Check what is included in the exact bundle. Record a short test in your filming app.

02

FOR THE WHOLE MOVEMENT

A tripod + phone clamp

Variations, combinations and steady class footage.

Set the frame once, then check the biggest jump and widest travelling step. Leave space above the hands and below the feet.

Check before buying

Choose a stable, full-height tripod and a clamp that fits your phone with its case. Confirm the clamp is included and supports your filming orientation.

FOR FACES & DETAILS

A small lighting setup

Teacher introductions, interviews and close-up demonstrations.

Start with available light. If faces are still dim, an adjustable panel can help you light a small filming area.

Check before buying

Small panels are not a solution for lighting an entire studio. Check stand height, included power supplies and available sockets. Keep stands clear of dancers.

BEFORE YOU PRESS RECORD

A one-minute
studio check.

The setup matters more than owning every item on this page.

  1. Clean the lens.Use a clean lens cloth. Choose a background that lets the movement read.
  2. Rehearse the frame.Test the widest movement and highest jump. For auditions, follow the organizer’s required framing and orientation.
  3. Listen to ten seconds.Play back the recording. Check the selected mic, clothing noise, music and room echo.
  4. Watch the light.Start facing a window when practical. Keep the face visible and equipment outside the dancing area.
  5. Make one clear point.Choose a correction, question or small story. Get permission from the people appearing in the video.

A few useful answers.

Do I need the whole kit?

No. A steady phone in good available light can be enough for movement footage. Add a microphone when speech matters. Add lighting when your actual filming position needs it.

Will a microphone remove studio echo?

Not completely. Keeping the mic close to the speaker can help, but room acoustics, clothing and music still affect the result. Compare a short test with any noise reduction on and off.

Which phone connection should I buy?

Check the actual port on your device and the receiver included with the mic. USB-C, Lightning and camera receivers are not interchangeable just because the microphone model name is the same.

Where are the prices?
